Government Commits to Funding Public Electric Charge Points
We are pleased to see that- this quarter- the Government has committed £300 million in grant funding to the public electric charge point network and which will also be directed towards encouraging the sales of electric taxis, vans, trucks, motorcycles and wheelchair accessible vehicles.
Whilst a redirect of the plug-in car scheme, this is still a positive step for the industry in its push to electrification and the development of the infrastructure to underpin this.
Already we have seen the increase in fully electric cars from fewer than 1,000 in 2011 to almost 100,000 in the first five months of 2022.
The infrastructure is needed to support this and the UK’s commitment to reach 300,000 electric vehicle charge points by 2030 – a figure which is equivalent to almost five times the number of fuel pumps on the UK roads.
